VE Day street party celebrations
The 70th anniversary of VE Day time tradition of street parties.
On 9th & 10th May it is the 70th anniversary of the end of the war and many people are celebrating it in traditional style with a street party - here's how to do it.
If planning last minute, you can still hold an informal street meet without closing a road or getting permissions - see here.
In 1945 many street parties were held spontaneously or planned for the summer when some of the men were home.
Many people still have fond memories of those children focussed neighbours' events - see the history of street parties here.
Nowadays residents hold street parties for all ages to create an Age Friendly Street.
