Reclaiming Streets after Riots
Hackney residents and businesses hold a street party to take their street back
Clarence Road in Hackney, east London suffered from one of the worst of the recent riots. In response one week afterwards many residents and local businesses have clubbed together to hold a street party tea party .
Like the clean up gangs before them, this is one example where coming together in the street has given local people the chance to feel that their streets belong to them again, in defiance of the people who wrecked the street the week before.
